Hi, I have a 2020 Hyper 950 sp with about 6000 miles that has been exhibiting some odd behavior with the battery/charging system. With the OEM battery sometimes when running it would display low voltage, which would cause the idle to increase until the warning went away, plus the heated grips would not activate. Took the bike to the dealer, they said they cleared some error codes and replaced the voltage regulator, heated grips would still not activate and same issue came back after a couple of rides. After noticing that my heated grips would come on after pulling some wheelies and shut off a couple of minutes later I checked the battery voltage. Engine off 12.1 V, engine on idle, 12.3-5 V, engine on 3000-3500 rpms 12.6-7 V. Changed the battery believing that it could not hold a charge, new shorai lithium ion battery, got 12.7-8V engine off, 12.3-5 on, 12.6-7 engine on 3000-3500 rpms. Any idea what could be causing this?

As I understand it, the system should charge well above 13V with the engine running, so either the alternator or more likely the regulator/rectifier are shot, and your battery is being let down. Older Ducatis had poor cable and/or connections between the two, but I'd hope recent ones were better.

Good luck with fixing it!

I did a separate reading using the voltmeter on the battery terminals today, battery voltage is 13.1 at rest and 13.3 at idle, the dash however displays 12.7 and 12.5 respectively.

YO , noelsarduy any update with your charging issue ,i am having the same problem like you went bike get hot ?

I've had problems with the Shorai lithiums on my 2023 Hypermotard SP...holding charge especially. went back to lead acid

Haven’t gotten it fixed yet since I don’t need the heated grips during the summer months but as soon as winter comes will probably look at it again, the low readings at the dash automatically disable the heated grips.

'24 SP, add ons: Clearwater Darlas, Ducati heated grips, Warm & Safe heated jacket. Total pull w/ all at max = 178 watt / 13.7 amps. Stator output = 490W / 35A. With lights at 3/4 and jacket at 1/2 the heated grips won't work on high...low is ok but cuts off at a stop when rpm's drop for a minute or so. After up to speed again, grips go green and are working again on low. On high and medium the grip icon goes black and they stop heating. Turn light as low as they go, and the jacket off...then the grips work on high. Duc shop here says that they do not know how much the bike itself draws (fuel pump, etc), so if they do not know that, I don't really trust them to figure this out. Plus Duc will likely refuse warranty due to non OEM add ons.
So the questions are: Anyone know what the bike itself draws, ie: is it possible that the bike itself draws 200W or so, thus I'm maxing out the output? Bad battery? Bad rectifier? Things to check? Best guesses?
Thx in advance as intermittent electrical gremlins are not my strong suit.

I know this thread is an older one, but did you ever solve your issue?
