Clutch Cable Snap

Just out of interest below is a photo of the Hypers clutch cable and the hand leaver nipple.

As you can see it's got a red plastic sleeve that covers most of the radius. I'm not sure if the earlier cables had this friction coating....it's about a millimetre thick.

I'm carrying the cable in the tank bag....I figure that if it does go it will be easier to change on the spot then try and transport the bike.

I have a 13 and checked my cable tonight. It does not have the plastic sleeve and upon further inspection, I found the cable starting to separate. Not at the barrel, but where it goes through the threaded adjuster. I have 3000 miles on the bike and have lubed the pivot and barrel as part of routine maintenance. I just ordered the cable from DucatiOmaha and when I punched in the part number, it said that the cable has been "upgraded". The bike is still under warranty, but I'm not going to spend the time loading the bike in the truck and drive 50 miles just to unload it for 4 days while they order the part just like they did when my lambda sensor failed. The cable was only $38, so I'm not stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime on this repair. Just doing it myself.
