Effect of different tires on DCT & ABS?

the owners manual states that the operation of the ABS and DCT will be altered by the use of different tires.
It doesn't say how.....

I noticed that my ABS seems more aggressive with the TKC80s installed.
Anybody else found noticeable differences in the operation of these features using other tires?

Can anybody explain what happens to the both DCT and ABS using different tires, a rule of thumb perhaps?
 
I can't say for sure. But perhaps a smaller reat tire makes the tc/abs kick in easier due to higher rear wheel speeds. I installed a taller rear tire and have not been able to engage the tc on pavement where i could with the stocker

thats true for the TC.
had Michelin PS3 on my 821, tire was perfect for me but unfortunatly TC was working much too early. seems that the ratio front to rear tire is not the same as with the Pirellis.
on my 939 i now use the Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3, but have not been on track with it until yet.
But, on vacation it worked perfect.
ABS may be affected by different grip of tires, but not from different sizes, because it checks front and rear tire separatly.

Maybe it's simply because you have less grip.
 
I noticed issues with PR4's - the TC even on the lowest level would engage all the time for no reason and was very intrusive. I can't remember how the Q3's were, but the M7RR's seem to match the stock Pirellis very closely. The TC only engages when it slips a lot (in setting 1) and is not intrusive.

Paab is right - if the diameters are not the same as what the system is calibrated for, if the rear is slightly smaller, it will do this.




As far as ABS.. well TKC80's are knobbies, so you must also consider this.
 
I'm on my 5th set of tires, each different. The only change to the traction control/ABS warning light illumination was when pushing TKC knobby tires on wet pavement.
 
Traction Control and ABS work by detecting wheel speed differences and calculating traction / grip loss using those numbers. Rather than being a fixed parameter , these numbers will change over the life of the tire and also with the model and manufacturer of the tire.
More aggressive TC / ABS implies a tire that has less or more grip on that particular surface as compared to your reference tire. This could be due to road / tire temperatures, moisture levels , tire pressure , tire compound, tire size ( Rim size , Aspect and width ), tread pattern and wear etc. The factory calibrated Algorithms are tuned for OEM specified tires ( size , make ) and tire pressures. Even suspension settings can affect how these electronic aids feel because tire grip is affected by the suspension settings.
It would be worrying if the traction control and ABS subsystems responded not to actual physical friction ( or lack of thereof ) but to the make and type of tire.

Tires have different grip levels. The ABS and TC will act accordingly based on the info from the sensors.
