recall on steering head upper bearing seal

Waiting

Dealer says no part, I called about six weeks ago and call back every few weeks. They say it has to come from Italy and still waiting. Anyone else having to wait so long? I am not confident in the service dept so far.

No letter or email here, so I called my dealer and they said "bring it in any time." Had the part in stock. Took 20 minutes, and I'm sure they looked at the upper bearing. I was ogling a leftover 848 for most of that time. All matt black, marked down...aggh.

I like Newport Beach Ducati. I believe they are the biggest, sales-wise, in the USA. There's a reason for that. Big screen TV, a McLaren parked out front...I can ignore the Triumphs.

BTW nearly every part comes directly from Italy, but it should only take a week - not much more time than other manufacturers with warehouses back East.

Had mine done last week. Left it with the dealer for the weekend (it was snowing anyway). I could see the new seal on top of the bearing.

Was the seal in stock?
I am still waiting for mine from RIDE motorcycles. They are not a Ducati dealership anymore so, I guess it wont be in anytime soon!

Im just going to purchase one myself and install it.

I might go for a ride tomorrow if your interested. (still in "break-in" mode)
I'm in Stouffville. maybe do some back roads. high of 6 tomorrow!

Cheers

I went to GP Bikes, in Whitby. They had to order it, but it only took 3 days to get in. I guess the warehouse has them in stock.

Why purchase and install it? Make the warranty pay!!

Also, if it ACTUALLY hits 6 tomorrow, I'll be amazed. Today was supposed to be 2, but stayed at -2 or colder. Would def be up for a ride later, though, Sunday looks nice!

Making me jealous talking about rides...granted, the temps are supposed to start improving, but with the layer of ice on my driveway [I'm in Mont Cascades, Quebec, about 30 mins north of Ottawa and about 600 feet higher in elevation] and current road conditions with lots of salt, dirt and light gravel, I won't be seeing any rides for at least 3 weeks - and that's assuming a real improvement in weather. Two years ago, which I realize was abnormally warm, I was riding by now...uuuurggghhh... :-(

I have an appointment with the dealer on Friday to check my steering bearings because they are binding. This is causing the bike to handle poorly so I stopped riding it back on June 7th and scheduled a visit to the dealer. My bike does not have the seal pictured earlier in this thread.

I told the service writer about the steering being rough, like the bearings are too tight. He did not make any mention of a possible recall or TSB.

Could one of you who has received the recall notice please forward a copy to me? I did not get the email from Ducati and want to be able to show it to the dealer if needed.

It was not a recall, it was issued as a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB). In this case, Ducati does not notify the owners, it is the dealer's responsibility.

The HyperS has not had any recalls issued to date.

Thanks for the info. My bike is at the dealer now and, both bearings will be replaced and the rubber gator will be installed under warranty.

They may also be replacing the throttle due to the bike not revving over 5,000 RPM on one of my rides.

This forum is awesome. If I didn't find out about the TSB here, I don't think the dealer would have installed the rubber gator. I had to tell them about it!

That isn't accurate about the recall notice. I received an official email from Ducati regarding the steering head bearing and lambda sensor. Maybe you need to be fully registered to receive.

+1 had the same notice

Look again, I seriously doubt that you will find the word 'recall' anywhere on that email. A recall - officially known as a Safety Recall - involves a whole lot more paperwork with NHTSA than a TSB. I used to work on both for my employers. No, it wasn't GM, thank goodness!

I got a letter about the CPU reflash, but nothing about the steering head seal. DNA might be selecting a different production range, or concentrating on places where it actually rains...

Um, it said come get parts replaced for free that could fail and hurt you/bike. It was proactive with no gubment involvement but, a recall to me.

man, Zippy. I thought I was anal...you were probably a fantastic engineer.
