Very strange failure on my hyper. It's got 58000 miles and I've had it since New. Always changed oil at 4k or less always at proper level. The cam ground and seized in its guide and ended up ripping the belt apart. Somehow it seized in the right spot and didn't bend valves.my question is why might this have happened? It's very odd that only one of the journal locations would starve of oil if it is in fact oil starvation. Any ideas guys? Really want to fix this correctly.

I'm no engineer or mechanic, but could over-tightened belts have caused this? The damage seems to be near the outboard edge of the journal.

Also this

Did you just have it serviced?

It was serviced by me about 2000 miles prior. I don't think the belts were too tight. If anything they might have been looser than spec. I'll keep it a thought though. I've done 4 valve adjustments and belt changes and never saw any damage showing up between then. To be honest I let someone rwnt my bike through an app for a day and it took a **** that same day he had it. I don't see what he could of done to cause this though. So not really casting blame on him.

So I've installed new vertical head, ran it gently for about 10 miles and it seized again. Same cam. Havent opens head yet cause it happen last night. I reckon no oil is being pushed up. Anybody have My reasons or suggestions? I did spin motor by hand with head off and saw no oil come out of cylinder block hole. I figured it wasn't enough rotation to pump any up. Damn.

Should have spun it up with cam cover off and spark plugs out, just on the starter motor till the oil light went out and so see of oil getting up there.
have you had the oil strainers out to check them. Sounds like the oil galley might have a blockage though.

I did not check the strainer. I'll do that today. That's the big round cap on bottom right side right

Damn, that sucks. I’m assuming you weren’t running it with the oil pressure light on? In which case you need to figure out why you had oil pressure at the sensor but not at the head.

I don't think there was an oil light. My dash was clear of codes and errors and no colored lights.

Huh. I wonder what could possibly block the oil passage. Maybe your oil filter fell apart and some paper got stuck inside? What brand filter did you use?

It's a knn on it. I'll take a peek at it as well. Got home from work late so maybe tomorrow

Not sure how to remove strainer. It's shredded. Not sure why yet. Going to have to pull the motor out I guess :(

This had lodged into the oil strainer. Managed to pull it out with magnet stick. Any idea what it is

It looks like half of a washer... what other kind of work have you done to the bike or had done to it?

I've changed the clutch but not recently. Easily 15k or more ago. Crank case has never been split.
I've also noted that my coolant is half empty when I look into radiator. It was filled before I started and rode. Not sure if it went into the rest of the system or if it leaked into engine

Did you know that the strainer is supposed to be removed and cleaned every other service.
That would explain lack of oil at the top. Gallery will be blocked

This is vertical head after only about 15 miles. Same side seized again.
