The Suspension Thread!!! BOOING

For me the stock suspension is fine 90% of the time, especially if the pavement is smooth.

Where I am challenged is when the road gets rough. Backroad cattle guards, frost and heat broken pavement, potholes and even washboards cause telegraph the jolt up through the handlebars to me. Something I don't like.

Half the money buys 70% of the performance if you select the single Mupo cartridge. That's a value.

Mupo double:

Adjustment features:
Rebound 40 positions
Compression 40 positions
Manual spring preload 30 positions (15 mm)

Mupo single:

Adjustment features:
Rebound 40 positions
Manual spring preload 30 positions (15 mm)

That's what I'm talking about! I don't get super crazy with my hyper, that's what I have a track bike and RC51 for.

Mupo says there are three different internals for the Hyperstrada 821. That they need to know which the bike has before they can ship any of their products.

Interesting. Do you know what specific all they want to know, or how to tell which version a bike has?

They have to see the internals to know which version I have. My Austin installer says photos will work. Problem is with making rider specific adjustments and shipping my bike will be sitting for 2 months. Summer job then.

Gee that's annoying. I guess that's a next year thing for sure. Well keep us informed as you go. The more info we have about everything the better!!!

I spoke with one of the leading suspension guys in our area (Wash DC) about upgrading my Hyper suspension. Likely I'll go with Ohlins on rear and some kind of RaceTech insert up front. But not all at once. That way I can best judge each improvement incrementally.

Strider and RSL.. I see you guys are essentially in the middle of the country. Don't know if you have ridden the Appalachians in any depth. I run a small touring and workshop gig called ridersworkshop.com I've made it my biz to learn pretty much all the cool smooth pavement 2nd and 3rd gear mc routes through these mountains. I can link over 500 miles of these kinds of roads without a break.

I'm interested in riding with some good Hyper riders. If you'd like, make your way over to these mountains this summer and we'll spend a few days riding what I call Invisible Roads. You'll read about them on my website. We'd have a good time. Just a thought. No charge. Just ride for the fun of it.)

Hi
Has somebody any expereince with MUPO SP /single cartridge/ upgrade?
Cost is at the same level like the full Adreani kit. Would appriciate any input before choosing any.
Thanks

I went with the MUPO SP version. It was installed by an Ohlins service partner, no issues.
The service guy had Adreani cartridge on stock /not for Hyper, but the same construction/, and the Mupo looks better to me in terms of build quality. Not a surprise, considering a single Mupo cartridge cost the same as the dual Andreani cartridge kit.
My first impression is very positive with the Mupo.
Some default parameters
Spring: K-0,7
Preload: 5 mm
Rebound: 25
Oil: Mupo 5

Quick one for you all, my 939 is in with nitron shocks uk being sized for their full range of rear shocks and cartrage kits for front end.

hey all- so where can I get some advice on 939SP ohlins settings? I'm curious as to how folks are tweaking the factory

yes mate both compression and rebound and remote preload adjuster. They could not fit the r1 shock in as the standard one is short. They have the front end in pieces as they are going to design cartridge internals for forks.

Mupo Installation

Decided to go ahead and do the suspension upgrade the right way.

OnRoad OffRoad Cycle in Austin, TX is taking care of the import, installation and adjustment of everything.

Fork cartridges are already installed.

This is a modification of the stock forks to accept two cartridges, to allow for separate compression and dampening adjustment.

Rear shock ordered, along with alternate springs. All AB1s are valved the same, because there is so much adjustment available. Both high and low speed compression adjustment, as well as rebound adjustment.

Not an inexpensive option but now I should have the tire contact and control I desire.

My next ride will be this winter, or next spring, so no ride report until then.
