You're not alone. I go light off road with my hyper. Problem is I have the diablo rosso ii and I lose the front in the soft stuff. I'd really like tires that can handle both, I'd like to do more off road but at the same time I like to hang off the side of the bike. Actually a few weeks ago I had a date on the back and I took her down a dirt road in the middle of a suburban town. It's a bit daring if we got caught by police, but she thought it was fun.

Bridgestone BT023 but will try something different at the next change.

BTW, I have a New Pirelli Scorpion for the front with 200 miles on it if anyone wants it for a few bucks.

I've managed 2700 out of the stock scorpion trail rear tyre, won't be bothering with one of these again, anyone had experience with Bridgestone BT021 or Dunlop sportsmarts?

with the standard tyres of the hyperstrada i did 8500 km... but the grip wasnt that good.
with the rosso 2 ( standard on hypermotard ) the grip was fantastic but the reatr tyre was gone on 5000 km...
Now i have the angel GT from pirelli, good looking tyre and superb grip!!!
i hope i do around 7000 km with this set.

I've just replaced my worn PR3's with the Angel GT on my Hyperstrada, done about 1000 miles now and really impressed so far. They have a similar feel to the PR3's, and are whey better than the stock Scorpions that were originally fitted. I find they turn into corners very neutral and have more than enough wet grip for me. Not really had a warm dry day to wring the neck out of them yet and doubt i'll get one this time of year.
With the scorpions I used to get a lot of harsh (vibe) through the handlebars from the road, these feel a lot smoother.
Also after a 1000 miles they still look new, so I'm expecting a lot more miles out of them too.

I'm getting them from Motorcycle Superstore - $240 a pair, free shipping! So what if they only last 3000 miles? I have a Cycle Hill tire changer, which has paid for itself many times.

IMHO there is nothing more important to a rider than GRIP. My previous favorite was the Rosso IIs, but these skins kick their butt.

I put a new Scorpion rear on my bike recently, I could only get a 190 profile as used on a Multistrada - It had a very odd effect and makes the front feel heavier and slower. Extra overall diameter to blame for this?

Putting a wider tyre on the rear will certainly make turning in feel slower, this is why on the 916,996 most people went from the standard 190 to a 180 same as the 748.

I'd check with your insurance too, as it may make you insurance invalid??

I've switched to a bridgestone T30 tyre on the rear, seems pretty decent so far but its been very cold since it was fitted so not been able to push it too much yet.

I took my P3 to the edge before winter and still felt I hadn't found the limit. That was actually scarier than how the Scorpions let me know when I was getting too crazy.

Absolutely right about a larger rear tire slowing the turn-in. But if my insurance company objected to this minor change, I'd switch companies. How would this affect liability or loss from, say, theft? I guess things are different in the UK. Gatsos, long term bans for speeding, and MOT inspections...!

Insurance companies over here will do anything to get out of paying for a claim, the 190 tyre would be deemed as none original spec!!
You can fit different tyres, but changing the profile and therefore handling Characteristics they would argue.

I'd say by reading the post they are most likely the Road 4ss rather than the Trail 4s!

Just passed 9200 miles on the factory tires. Will most likely to with Dunlop Roadsmart II. Had those on a 2001 Triumph Sprint ST and they worked very well. Since the Hyper is a lot lighter, I'm expecting a much longer tread life.

Question, for those of you who purchase tires online.

How confident are you with receiving a max two (2) year old from online purchase?
The sellers are guaranteeing max 2 years old or return free of charge. Not sure. Local pricing is outrageous.

I just picked up a set of Pirelli MT60R in our stock tire sizes.

Luckily the Scrambler was cause for Pirelli to make some new sizes for the MT60R, including the 180/55/17 for the rear. They already made the 120/70/17.

Look forward to using them for dual sport (ish) riding.
