Which tires for the Hyperstrada?

Mibanez, check out Ocala near Gainesville. Most elevation/twisties you'll get in FL. Farmland with rolling twisties and the occasional river/creek to cross. I used to cruise through there on weekends when I was in school. The ride from there west to Cedar Key is pretty scenic, too.

and Go Gators!

Thanks I will definitely keep it im mind.

And Go Heat too :D

The new 821 Hyper comes with 3 different types of tyres:
- Hyperstrada: Pirelli Scorpion Trail (Trail)
- Hypermotard: Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2 (Sport/GT)
- Hypermotard SP: Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP (Sport)
These are the tyres proposed in France but I assume that it is the same for everyone around the globe as the bikes are manufactured in Italy only - or some special version for special countries?

I do not know about the Scorpion trail, on my GSA the Metzeler Tourance 2 (trail) where ok but the Dunlop Roadsmart (sport/GT) were great. As I plan to ride the hyperstrada exclusively on roads (Paris) or curve spots in the French Alps I think that depending on my planning I will balance betwen Pirelli Diablo Rosso/Dunlop Roadsmart or dunlop Sportsmart/Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa (Tests will be necessary).
What about that?

Would love to throw my 2 cents in here as I've ridden all these tires at length.
Scorpion Trail is a good tire on road and it's not bad off road - it's a reach to call it a 'trail' tire, even if it is in its name. It's plenty sticky on pavement; main drawback to it is not lack of road grip at all, but rather longevity - it's generally a 3k mile tire as jerdog noted, even if you're not abusing it on the twisties or the track as many do on their Multis.
Rosso II offers great balance between sport riding and cruising around, and so does the Pirelli Angel which is one of my all time favorite tires.
Supercorsa SP can take a little longer to heat up and inspire confidence on standard roads than some people like, especially in cooler climates. Great sport/track tire though.
I like the idea of the Pilot Road 3 on the Strada as that tire absolutely sets the bar for on-road versatility right now- not quite as sticky in warm weather as the Rosso II, but offers good grip in all conditions including truly confidence-inspiring grip in cold/wet situations. And it will live longer.
This is all only if your dead-set on ditching the Scorpion Trails though, which again is a good road tire. Personally I'd only switch em out right off the bat if your dealer is letting you exchange the tires for free or something. Happy rubber hunting!

come to Hawaii...our roads suck...mostly asphalt with lots of pot holes! Should I get asphalt tires or off road tires? I think the shocks should work great on ****** roads. Maybe the Hypermotard SP would be better with more travel on the shocks...unfortunately I am 5'11" and a 35" seat might be a stretch for my vertically challenged legs?

I see there is also the Michelin Anakee Wilds coming out soon....

"Available in April, in one dimension (front: 120/70 R 19 Rear: 170/60 R 17), the Anakee Wild is a version of clinging Anakee 3"

Getting some good options for the rear.....

K60 front on the Super Tenere now, wore out a K60 rear on trip to Alaska and back, (10,000+ miles). It was squared off, but still had couple of thousand miles left. It is heavy and expensive tho. I love the front tho, might go with something else on rear.

Think the Trails lasted about 7k miles on my Multi12, and I went to PR2s.

No, they don't but I have seen one mounted on a Multi12, I wouldn't do it however.

Anyone know what kind of mileage we should expect from these scorpion trails? And how good they are going to be on the pavement. I have nearly zero desire to take my bike off road so I'm thinking of seeing if the dealer will switch to pilot road 3s before I take the bike.

Love the scorpions, did already 5500 km on them ( in 6 weeks) with 3000 km in Scotland with sometimes bad roads and tire eating tarmac.
There is still a lot of tire left.

The next ones will be scorpions as well.

Regards.

If you want something that will get good mileage and grip, Pilot Road3, period. Can't advise to off road. However I had these on my Multi 1200 and they took everything I through at them on a 5 day 1300 mile all, twisty ride through Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

Pilot Road 3. Had them on the Multi and they are a great tire.
Who is going to ride a Hyper off road - yeah I have seen the videos and pictures.
If you want off road buy a KTM 500 EXC!
Each to their own - have fun.

I had 8500 ish kms on my perelli before I was showing canvas. Threw a road 2 on the back for now when the front trail is ready to go I'm going to switch everything out for road 3.

OK just found the tire thread

My OEM Scorpions are "well" done at 6300km. Probably should have pulled them 500km ago but it's the end of my riding season so will put something new on for spring. Have run through most of the available ST tires on my ST2 but have not yet tried the PR3's, maybe they'll be next!

Just back from nice ride in Arkansas (954 miles total) and my Scorpions are getting close to done. I'm at 5242 miles and they did great in some pretty hard riding. 2 trips to Push Mountain, and Talimena Skyway plus lots of good roads in between.

Just checking this thread before I ordered. 2 RTs were on PR3s with me, and they did well, probably would last longer than the Scorpion, maybe. Also my wife's 696 has PR3s.

Just put some PR3's on mine a couple weeks ago at about the same mileage. Great tire, I've used them before on other bikes. No dramatic changes from the scorpions in regards to turn in etc. Should last longer.

Thanks for the report.

Read a lot of Scorpion Trail to PR3 convert reviews on Revzilla; many Multi 1200 riders, too. Looks like they perform just as well but last about 2K miles longer for the same price as Trails.

They have a "B" compound in our size for loaded or 2-up sport tourers, which I never heard of. Guess the only ding is no advertised off-road rating.

I have had the PR3 on an ST3 and Multi - fantastic tire. Do not go the B compound for the Hyper - it is for heavier machines. I was getting 7k rear and 8k front on the Multi from PR3.
Will go to the PR3 on the hyper when OEM fitment wears out,
