Guys, I am super harrowed and frustrated by my Hypermotard. I have had APS unit (right hand throttle grip) replaced 3-4 times in the last 2-3 years. I am simply stressed by these reliability issues. Have you guys faced the same issue. If yes, other than getting the whole APS unit being replaced, have you tried something different like directly connecting to the wiring harness using shielded cables. Guys i need your help on this.

What are the symptoms?
Is it a complete fail with no rev's to the engine?
Any changes made to the bike? Tuning modules etc.?

I can't help much, I've not had any problems, You have my sympathy though.

Symptoms - engine goes to limp mode with revs not going beyond idle. Speed limited to whatever engine can chug along at idle speeds. Opening the throttle doesn’t cause engine to rev accordingly. Its a persistent problem every ride in rains. This possibly is the 3rd or 4th APS so far in 4 years of ownership. Need to check old one although i got a new one fit to the bike. The service centre person came home to fix it. But i’m tired of it so selling it.

I'm really sorry to hear that.
Rain related then?
So water must be getting into electrics/ electronics somewhere, you think?
It's hard to diagnose something like that.

The problem gets a mention on a few Ducati forums (I'm sure you have found) - Everyone's fix seems to be just to replace the APS.
It's not an answer to why you have experienced so many fails when others do not though.

So does getting a new throttle fitted cure the problem (even temporarily) straight away?

Like Alan, I have no experience of this problem. Does your bike stand out in the rain much? Do you wash it very often? Maybe plenty of silicone grease around the mount of the twistgrip might help, including at the outer end to stop water tracking along under the grip.Presumably you have followed the electrical connections from the twistgrip and waterproofed them?
I don't blame you for giving up on the bike after all your trouble and expense but there must be a cure apart from only riding in the dry, which I admit I do.

I've had the limp mode and TCU replaced and all was good. Curiously, I pretty recently - years after replacement - had it go into limp mode, and at one point have no sense of throttle connection with it remaining at idle speed. Then I was reading on this forum about similar problems caused by loose battery connections. This happened with the bike fully loaded with a duffle strapped tightly to the seat. I took of the seat and yes, the battery connection was loose - tightened up and it hasn't happened since. either this is a just a boring story, or maybe it offers a path to a solution. I'm thinlking it might not be the APS (TCU?).

So currently no issues after you've tightened the loose wirings? The waterproofing method, did you spray something on the areas of the throttle assembly?

Confirm this is the part no. item replaced?

I have read in other threads (maybe not on this forum) about loose battery connections and/or bad/loose ground elsewhere on the bike. You might have to do some searching fore that thread. HTH

No problems since tightening those battery terminals. These bikes are sensitive to battery issues. A weak battery can light up the screen etc..The throttle assembly was replaced in 2014 based on the service bulletin. They had to look at the part on the bike to determine if it needed replacement and it was free.

Hey, could you resolve your problems with the APS sensor in the meantime?
I am struggling with this topic too, it's really hard. I have a 821 HS 2013. Also tried to change the APS Sensor with a new one, after the swap the bike felt like new, before it felt and was slower (kind of not having 100% throtttle but only 70-80%). 3 months after swapping the brand new sensor (latest revision) the same error happened again and I only had max. 70-80% throttle. weird thing: after the winter break, I installed the "broken" aps Sensor just for testing, and it actually worked flawlessly again for like 2 weeks, but now the reported problem occurred again. I measured the APS sensor position with MelcoDiag and when I fully twisted the throttle it said: 100%. So im really confused, because the Diagnostic Software tells me that I have a working throttle, but my bike only accelerates as if I only have 70 hp. I ordered two new Throttle bodies from the 939 Hypermotard In the hopes that the problem are the throttle position sensors. But I don't know if this will fix anything or just be a waist of money. I also tried doing multiple Throttle position Resets with melcodiag, but it also didn't help.

I would be very happy for some ideas what to look at next so get this bike working again (feels awful not to have all of the possible HP at your hand). It could be the ECU, but again, with a new APS sensor the bike works perfectly and also with the stock APS sensor (but only after the winter break, maybe something resetted, idk)
