Ducati heated hand grips

Last week I asked my dealer in Virginia and he stated that the due date in the system has defaulted to an invalid setting for delivery to the US. I sent an e-mail to Ducati through the website last Friday and today someone from Ducati called and then e-mailed me about the issue:

Me to dealer " any sign of those damn heated grips?", dealer "i'd think about aftermarket if I were you".

Ducati, you really suck at support.

Bought my SP in early May. Just getting the grips fitted on Nov 2. I have heard of the crazy Italian lead. Thank god they don't make iPhones.

Just sent Ducati a nasty gram about their bad customer support. At this stage I'd expect compensation of some sort to say sorry, they've been earning $$$$ interest on my money (and I'm sure many others) since April / May.

Like many of you I have been waiting on the heated grips for many months now (since April in fact), with the magic "it will be there by" date continuously being pushed back. The latest date I got was October 29 but nothing arrived, and my dealer contacted Ducati customer support here in the Netherlands. Their reply was that, hold your seat: the heated grips will NOT come available anymore for the Hyper due to ongoing supply issues.

I have a hard time believing this, especially since apparently Ducati North America still says they are coming. Before I fit some aftermarket grips without the nice integrated controls, anyone else here got a similar message or are there still Ducati heated grips coming in?

Dealer said moved to January now...Told me they would refund my money and call me when they came in... I said I don't want the money back ill wait for the grips, I sure don't want the only set they get to sell to someone else!

Oh boy oh boy, dealer just called and says he has my grips :)

They came in and were put away for another rider who ordered them a short while back but the parts guy says ,"uh huh, they go to the first in the queue" (and the other rider was cool about it) which is me - yippee !!!!

Yep. Only just got mine fitted after waiting 7 months.
Need them too. Was 5*C yesterday. But the grips and the new taller touring screen make riding cold conditions more bearable.

Question. I have a set of heated grips that I am going to install and then have the dealer activate.

I am just wondering if there is any issues installing them and then riding the bike before activation? Does the TPS need to be reset when the new grips are installed ? Any other gotchas here I am not thinking about?

I also notice that the throttle return spring in the new grips is much heavier that with the stock throttle tune. At lease it feels that way off the bike. I love the stock light throttle. Is there a way to reduce the return spring tension on the new heated grips?
