"Error" and all dash lights flashing, Fan Turns on, No Start...

My bike still drove but in limp mode only.
As I understand it the culprit is a short circuit in an ignition coil resulting in a severe current spike through the CANbus which potentially fries all connected circuity.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't know if rain has any impact on this.

I couldn't go to sort it...wait for another day or two

Hi all, just to share my experience with this matter.

It happened to me as well - sudden limp modes, christmas tree dash, no crank until cold etc. I was worried that it will cost me an arm and a leg after reading this thread. The technician checked it, said that the dash and ECU may need a replacement etc. Then, out of the blue, after 8 hrs (I meant 2 weeks at the dealers) of troubleshooting he discovered that the culprit was something different - the part that was install under a recall that is supposed to prevent the voltage surge from the front ignition coil is damaged. Probably when the previous owner or me changed the bulb, the loom wasn't stowed properly in the headlight housing and broke off one of the connectors in the recall part and that caused the issues.

When you come across this issue in the future, make sure to ask the technician to check this first and save yourselves a hefty charge for the technicians time to troubleshoot everything else. Needles to say, I was relieved that it ended up this way!

Finally went to show my Hypermotard to the service centre...the culprit is one ignition coil and ECU. They guy there swapped with a spare ECU I guess which fired the engine with only one cylinder firing. Now i am faced with a bill of ₹150000 to get her back running!
The bigger concern is the rains in India don’t put me back to same situation!

There seems to be some merit in moisture causing corrosion inside the horizontal cylinder, and thereby short circuiting the coil. You can use some high-temp aluminum tape or even maybe some head gasket sealant when replacing the coil.

Finally after spending like 150,000 Indian rupees, my Hypermotard is back. Still needs O2 sensors and new fork seals

Been waiting to swing my leg over for 2 months

Mine fried after 37000 miles - Ducati is doing a goodwill repair - coils, screen, something else... Yay. Lost 6 weeks of a 6 month riding season - boo. Lost some confidence in the bike - probably do the coil swap.

Well, error lights and flashes just happened to my 2013 with 13,737 miles on it. I didn't know about the CAN TSB at all until I saw the link posted here. I never got an email or anything from Ducati. From some of the other posts from you guys here, it sounds like even though the bike is out of warranty, the repairs should be covered. Thanks, it sounds a little more encouraging.
I'm going to contact my local dealer tomorrow to get the ball rolling.

You won't get any notice from Ducati. But, if you take it to an authorized service shop, they'll check the VIN for any TSB's, most of which will be free of charge. You will most likely have to pay a fee for the diagnosis.

So, no 2014 hypers affected by this issue? I was wondering if a coil swap was the way to go as I’m thinking of keeping the bike longterm.

I'd check with your dealer to find out if the can filter service bulliten applies to your bike - that would answer the question.

My bike has it AGAIN! Pulled it out of the garage and it was tough to start but once it started it went into disco lights.
I'm about ready to leave the bike parked on the train tracks. Enough already with this piece of ****.

Just out of curiosity, were the coils changed, or at least the horizontal cylinder coil? Can't remember..

The horizontal one is new. No idea about the other. Bill from the shop was not itemized.

The problem manifests different than last time. Last time the bike went into limp mode with signals flashing. No limp mode now and dashboard lights blinking is different too. Now the ***** lights flash 3 or 4 times and then the LCD blanks out at the same rate 3 times then just lights in a repeated pattern. Dashboard displays the word error but no error code. Also the radiator fan is turning on and off in time with the dashboard/lights. The signals work normally and I can ride and shift gears.
The ***** light for the engine does not blink like the rest, it's constantly on.

This might be a different problem than last time. But unless I haul the bike all the way back to the dealer by NYC again I'll never know what this problem is. And I currently cannot travel due to viral epidemic so it's just going to sit and collect dust in the garage indefinitely. It seems to like that.

Or maybe I should leave it in the alleyway with the key in the ignition....
