Yes, it was way more difficult than I thought it would be. The air filter replacement itself, when i finally got to it, was realtively simple. I'm glad I had something else to do while I was in there! I am not looking forward to wiggling the tank back on!

The short lead will reach the front cylinder connector if it is unclipped from the frame.
Both coils now installed. In order to connect the coil from the horizontal cylinder I had to remove the charcoal canister(which I had been meaning to do for ages). Without doing the canister removal there was no way I'd get my fumble fingers in there to connect the coil leads together!
Well, everything is back together including new air filter, spark plugs, Eldor coils and the full no judder clutch kit. I charged up the battery and the old girl started up once I found neutral. The good news is the bike started, the bad news is my odometer is still not functioning. Trip odos still work but still not the main one...hmphh!
It will probably be at least month before the roads are clear enough for a ride so I'll have to wait to see if I notice a difference from all the new bits. A little later this spring I'll take it to the dealer and they can adjust the valves, replace the cam belts, and tweak the electrics. Hopefully they can solve the odometer thing with the not yet done electrics patch.

Good to hear everything went great. Shame about the weather not cooperating though.
Finally got the HS out for a test ride. Bike started up and runs well and seems pretty darned perky. Cause I haven't ridden it for 6 months I can't really tell if the coils are making a difference but I'm going to say they do cause I want them to! Biggest difference was in launching cause of the newly installed clutch pack and anti judder kit.
I still love the 821 engine and the way it pulls this little bike. Especially considering it's at about 65000km and overdue for it's second valve adjustment and tune! Hopefully will get it to the dealer in a couple of weeks but hard to imagine it'll run better than it is now.

so after reading this, I got scared and just ordered a set of Eldor packs from ebay. Just got my HS in March and plan on holding on to it for a while.
dumb question: the eldor coil each have a different P/Ns: (857084, 857501) for cyl 1 and 2.
can I easily tell which pack is for which cylinder or it doesn't matter?

One just has a longer wire from the coil pack to the 3 pin connector. I had to do a splice in the middle of the wire for the vertical piston but nothing some solder and marine grade heat shrink tubing couldnt handle. I just made sure to stagger the splice. The other coil has enough wire.
Because I bought a set of 4 used coils, and wanted to be able to help someone here with the other 2 coils. The length is not as critical on the horizontal cylinder.

There is a website i have found the connector,3 pins, and 3 seals in one package. This is good for converting a single aprilia coil connector to the ducati style. Furthermore you can obtain used aprilia coils from AF1 Racing website. I will be making several sets personally and anybody too busy to do the conversion yourself, your welcome to purchase some finished pairs from me.
PLEASSSSEEEE If you have a 2013-16 You should do this mod to save yourself much pain and cost!!! Ive gone through the ECU/Dash/Coil dilemna THREE TIMES! and my friend TWO times!!! I'll be doing this mod which i should have done from the start.

I have a Hypermotard 821 and its been lying for new ECU and Coils. I have been reading about Beru Coils messing the ECU. I already have "CAN Filter" installed by the Service Centre but the ECU konked after i installed. I have been using it it daily in city with torrential rains between July-September. So i believe the rains played havoc with the coils to fry the ECU.
Can you help with Eldor Coils. These coils cost a bomb in India at 24k INR for a set and 11000INR for ECU.
I have the can filter and something recently went very wrong. Will keep posted. Cue the sad trombone...
Good job on finding a source for the connectors. I wasn't able to find that one when I did mine.

Don’t you guys think that we all owners of Hypers be it Strada or Motards from 2013-15 collectively write to Ducati for a permanent solution. A kind of document VIN numbers and failures...you cant keep buying new ECUs and Coils because they don’t stand the torture.
Count me in Motosapien. I'm in Houston. Have had ECU and dash replaced twice on 2013 Hyperstrada. It wasn't until the 2nd time that the dealer told me the ignition coils needed to be replaced as well.
Love the way the bike rides expect for the messed up electronics and weird clutch engagement.

Thanks for this thread - after 37,000 miles my stuff fried. I have the canbus filter. Ducati is doing a good will repair and that is appreciated, but I think I'll do the coil switch.
