You definitely should! It will more than likely happen again! Thanks for this thread - after 37,000 miles my stuff fried. I have the canbus filter. Ducati is doing a good will repair and that is appreciated, but I think I'll do the coil switch.
One just has a longer wire from the coil pack to the 3 pin connector. I had to do a splice in the middle of the wire for the vertical piston but nothing some solder and marine grade heat shrink tubing couldnt handle. I just made sure to stagger the splice. The other coil has enough wire.
I ended up cutting and putting new ends on my new coils so I juts bought 2 of the long wire coils because they were easier and cheaper at that specific moment. I'm not sure about using the coils from other Ducati's. It is my understanding that the combination of coils used along with the specific ecu on the hyper is the issue(apparently it is unique to the hyper which is why no aftermarket ecu flaser/tuner messes with them and you are forced to do a piggyback system(other than rexxer and t800)) . They should have actually resolved the issue from the factory as opposed to adding a filter in my opinion.
Mine fried even with the filter. I now have a 2 year warranty on the free goodwill repair (ecu, dash, coils on 2013 with 37,000miles) so the quandry is leave the beru for a refry or put in eldors but no warranty. hmmmI ended up cutting and putting new ends on my new coils so I juts bought 2 of the long wire coils because they were easier and cheaper at that specific moment. My mistake, you are correct. I bought 2 short wire coils and extended one. The short wire coils were quick, easy and cheap so I jumped on them. I cut , soldered and heat shrink(couple layers of heat shrink) the OEM long wire to the short wire coil out front. My mistake. It's been a couple years since I did the swap. From your original post, it sounded like you needed to add length to the vertical piston wire? So the long one is still too short?
That's a tough one. I think I would wait till you are close to the warranty being over if you have a written contract saying they will replace everything if it happens again. But then again, if you do the swap you wont have to worry about the bike being down for the time it is in the shop. That's a tough decisionMine fried even with the filter. Stay safe. Many years of riding ahead.Thank you all for the answers. My mechanic is not an official Ducati. I will call the official workshop where I buy the motorcycle and where I have passed all the reviews and I will tell you the case to see if they solve everything in guarantee. I keep you informed although now is not a good time for us in Spain with the *****-19. There are other priorities currently.
Thank you
