I had an original 2013 Hyper for a number of years. Loved the bike but eventually got sick of a couple of quirks (the inconsistent clutch bite and the low rpm around town fueling) and moved it on in favour of a new Tenere 700. The Tenere is a good bike and does pretty much all that I want perfectly but it is very vanilla :( I miss my Hyper :( So how is the 939 clutch and low rpm fueling? Tempt me back to a Hyper :D Cheers.

They may have added the judder kit to the clutch pack on 939, but same basic setup. If you really want a good clutch on the Gen 1 or 2s, go hydraulic. I did it the expensive (and pretty) way, Araitim did it very affordably.

If you plan on a lot of highway touring, I wouldn't go back. You'll want something in the Multi or GS category. For a fun motard, pretty hard to beat unless you spend more money. I love mine despite a lot of down time. I've invested way more than it's worth and can only own one bike at a time where I am. I'll keep it until I can upgrade and think it will become a track bike.

I hesitate to disagree with my betters, but the problem with the clutch lies in the plate-pack, so address that and you have an excellent action with the original cable release. Hydraulic may be sweeter, but the big difference comes with adding a bit of give in the plate take-up, as with all Ducati clutches.

It doesn't sound as though you are in the market for something porky like the Multi, much less the GS, unless you really want to munch miles. In my book, they are hefty overkill, so scratch the itch and get an HS. The 821 is still a very fun bike, and if you find one that's been sorted, you'll be a happy chappie!

I am surprised you aren't getting along with the T7. That motor is a real gem. Have you put a pipe on it to uncork it and hear its glorious symphony a bit more?

939 has the same fueling quirks, clutch is fine, though a bit grabby when cold. I'd go with the 950, motor is supposed to be better and the electronics are done by Bosch instead of Magneti Marelli.

Thanks for the input. Looks like I better find a 939 Hyper to test ride to see for myself.
@kuksul08 the Tenere is a good bike and does pretty much all that I want perfectly but it is just very vanilla and characterless. My Hyper is the one bike I've had that I really regret moving on from. Just wish I could afford to have a garage full of bikes for all occasions... :D

How does the T7 compare engine wise to the hyper? I'm imagining the acceleration would be similar to urban mode?
T7 is very sorted engine wise. There's a slight FI induced hesitation when rolling of and on the throttle at low revs other than that it is linear in its power delivery and very tractable from low revs all the way through., The CP700 engine has been around a while in previous Yam bikes and is well proven. T7 is slightly heavier than the Hyper so probably about the same in urban I guess although I didn't really use my Hyper in that mode except when on shingle/dirt roads with the ABS and TC settings reduced. Cheers.

thanks, I need to think about If I will be happy sacrificing power and handling for off-road ability

Yep, rode a MTS950 today. Just felt big, heavy and cumbersome. T7 is a more agile ride. The front end seems huge from the seat. Not for me. Scrambler DS appeals to some extent but not to my all important pillion. On the look out for a HS939. Cheers.
