What'd you do to your Hyperstrada today?

I didn't mount up the left side bag yet, but I measure 16.5 inches from the widest point to the center of the bike. Total width with both panniers should be 33 inches. I measure the mirrors at 35.5 inches.

Nate

The Service Manual specs say 33.9" across the mirrors - I worry more about snagging the bar ends. But 33" should be okay. My HD measures the same across the bag guards, but is 36" across the handlebars. It's a lot easier to judge a gap against the front width than the back.

Are you up for a longer ride? Say, DeLuz? Weather looks great for Sunday - into the 90s by Tuesday! What happened to Spring?

Hi Tom, a longer ride on Sunday sounds good. I usually meet Ludger and the gang at the Starbucks at 8:30. Nate

reflective rim tape

from Tapeworks -- I did this by hand - its tedious and not perfect HOWEVER Tapeworks will soon have an install tool available called the Stripe it All. see the video here Stripe-It-All by Tapeworks

I decided to install 4 per wheel per side - probably nicer with only 3.

I had seen a Kawasaki with green reflective rim tape at a night time get together - amazing visibility. Look is OK.

You mean down in Capistrano? I guess we could go down there, but I had a ride from the Lookout down into northern San Diego County in mind. Could be a bit windy on the way back. Have you been to Palomar?

Let's talk at the Lookout. We'll be there about 8:30. I tend to be ready for breakfast by the time we get there.

I'm thinking the exact same thing, I still have 3 feet of snow on my back deck!

Well, you do live up in the Frozen North! Around here, snow is frosting that dresses up the local mountain tops.

We are getting some gusty north winds, though. Blows out the haze - we call this the "smug season." No smog, get it?

Same thing here in the Ottawa area...ok, not quite the same. We still have lots of snow, but we didn't just have a legendary storm like the maritimes did. I'm from PEI originally and have been getting pics from my family back home. WOW! They will have significant snow on the ground well into May I'm sure. I'm hoping to pick the bike up from storage in a week or two...fingers crossed!

Got it out from service. :)
Fork seal and cable tighting Check
Heated grips Check
New oil Check
Front sprocket (14) installed Check

Sunny weather Check.

Finally after a long winter, the sun shows itself. Not that hot but with the new heated grips one can appreciate a good ride. :)

Met up with NateB yesterday at the Lookout. Wifey tried out the passenger accommodations. Unfortunately the bags interfere with heel clearance at the passenger pegs. If Bellevue redesigned their brackets to move the bags an inch back, they would be fine. The bags sure look sturdy!

So, the Givi Trekkers are off my 'to do' list for now.

Thanks Tom for letting me test drive your Hyper. The custom valving in the front fork feels great. The Dunlop Q3s and custom upgraded foot levers are also nice. Sweet ride! Nate

Glad you enjoyed the ride. I have had so many great test rides out of that parking lot! On more than one Gurney Alligator prototype, for example. An 851 back when they were current. Triumphs, Aprilias. The magazine guys show up fairly often, too.

Like I said, if you don't have a front stand you could borrow mine to pull the forks. It's a 15 minute job; the only things that are fussy are the ABS wire and sensor shims. You don't have to pull the headlight assembly. Or you could do it next time you change tires. It took R/T about a week to do the fork work, depends on their workload.

Have a great week and enjoy the warm weather. Next Sunday I'll probably be parked in front of the TV watching GP & WSBK. I'm having withdrawal symptoms....

Added LED fog lights (10W per side). They are on a dimmer switch as they are incredibly bright! I want to use them all the time without blinding other drivers.

Connected a 12v/USV outlet to the on-board wire for the GPS.

did the 10,000-km oil change this morning. easy job, took only an hour to include bleeding the crankcase. doing it myself versus having the local ducati shop do it saved me $100 in parts and labor :)

suprphreak, could you post more detailed photos of your fog light. interested in your set-up. thanks

Arrow Exhaust

Installed an Arrow carbon can and mid-pipe today. Installation was a snap, the can quality is uber-high and it sounds yummy. I weighed the parts and saved about 3.5 pounds counting all mounting hardware. The flapper valve cable was also disconnected without any ECU codes. I'm starting with the db Killer installed which seems slightly louder than the factory can. The fit, appearance and sound are totally satisfying! Cheers. :D

Looks good Zrider!
I am waiting for the Arrow X-Kone to arrive at the shop. Any reason you chose that one over the X-kone?
Cheers

Thanks. :) I considered both and simply prefer the appearance and lines of mine but would probably be happy with either. Congrats for your excellent taste...:D

Evotech Tag Mount

Different day, different mod--installed the Evotech Tail Tidy kit in about two hours. I prefer the smaller, cleaner rear end and don't care about possible "water spray on my back" since I almost-never ride on wet roads. :) There were no written instructions but there is a "picture instruction" sheet that shows most steps. The kit is plug-n-play with no soldering and is very well engineered. It fits perfectly and is also supposed to work with Hyperstrada bags although I haven't tried that yet. No regrets!
