Hyperstrada problem list

Here's a repost of what I said on ducati.ms Hyper forums the other day:

My list ('13 base Hyper, US model):

* Limp home mode once. Probably covered by the throttle recall. Went away after a mix of restart/limp home override (hold clutch in to override).
* Several stalls while coasting at idle. Possibly carbon canister, which I haven't removed yet.
* Brake recall/shop memo for front brakes.
* "Christmas Tree Dash"/ECU death, however my bike lost power completely (died) while in motion and would not restart. After several tries on the side of the road (and checking my shorts after it almost got me run over) it restarted and has been running normally since. This is probably not the same ECU death issue that others have experienced since mine died completely and recovered on its own. AFAIK I'm the only person that's been affected by this, so I'll chalk it up to "random software bug".

Mine is due to go into the shop next week for the throttle and brake recalls. I doubt they'll do anything about "Christmas Tree Dash" since it's not dead.

Great Idea!!!

Headlight/Tail light blown out (replaced warranty)
Throttle issues (replaced warranty) I'm still getting a surge @ 2000rpm, just before she reaches idle. Anyone else has this issue?
Cable Clutch snap (replaced warranty)
Front Brake shuddering/noisy (cleaned bobbins on rotors, no improvement)
Saddle Bags difficult of remove (connections lubed, warranty)

That's it so far.

Peace
Can I ask how the rear LED tail lights blew?

I have a '14 low. Have done 17,000 klms in seven months....no issues at all.

OK I spoke to soon....

- this morning the bike wouldn't start. It cranked but no fuel or spark. Let it stand for a few minutes and it then burst into life as usual.
- at the dealers I was having some work done (brake pedal replaced) and they advised of a recall. Looking at throttle, fuel relay issues and the clutch cable. I image the relay issue was the cause of this morning no go....but this is the first time this has happened.
- also told them about the clunk that has developed over the past two weeks in the rear end.....turns out the back shock is stuffed.

Am now on a loan bike and waiting for the dealer to call about the rear shock....hoping they have one in stock. Otherwise it will be two weeks from Italy (at best).

2013 with 4500 miles. I had stalling issues when downshifting in the beginning of owning the bike. They did a relearn on the TPS sensor and it didn't solve anything. I just got used to the personality of the bike and changed my habits. It's just the nature of the motorcycle .. Then again I motogp the downshifts nowadays and ride much more aggressively.

There is a film of oil on the studs for the forward cylinder head, but it's nothing serious. In my experience, 90% of engines develop some kind of oil sweat.

I am surprised at the issues other people have. I can make a wager that my Hyper is the most abused on this forum. I have went on some muddy off road, blasted through a 2ft puddle of salt water, the front wheel is always chucked to the sky, occassionally my bike gets air time, and lately the rear tire has a nasty habit of drifting on every corner. Maybe you guys should stop babying your Hyper.

I had that stalling issue on my 2013 when it was very new. An ECU update fixed it.

Bike:2014 Hyperstrada. 20,006KM today.

Replace under warranty: Starter.
Replace: Coil wire connector (Melt)

I had an issue on my bike now which i realise 2 months ago and duc dealer cannot solve it for me. When i was cruising on high speed 170km/h around 7k+/- RPM. My bike on and off miss fire feeling/jerk sometimes. Only happen when cruise the throttle, open/close the throllte no issue. Every month i need to travel 600km to outstation for my work, my cruising speed on toll way was 160-180KM/H all the way. I changed my spark plug, duc dealer said they do check on spark plug coil, reflash my ecu, even now run on standard exhaust but the problem still the same. Now they told me don't know what is going on. I'm kinda piss off the bike and thinking to sell if off. I hope anyone here can give me some advise.

You may want to check if your bike is affected by the throttle control bulletin. Mine had similar symptoms at around 145 Km/H and steady throttle. It seems to be fixed after the throttle assy. was changed.

Well I have to add to this list:

Throttle sensor: replaced with recall. Went into limp mode twice - cured with a restart so never left stranded.

The recall section of the ducati website is faulty - so you have to have a dealer look up your bike to get an accurate assessment as to whether your throttle is recalled or not.

(2013 strada)

The instruction sheet that my dealer had listed 2 different throttles that were affected. They need to check the part number on the unit itself.

Update my case.

Last week duc dealer end up received the latest recall for my hyper.
1. Throttle control
2. Clutch Cable
3. Coil relay

My bike still in duc after about a weeks, they told me now all fix and need to try to test on the road. I hope the jerk issue can be solve after change the throttle control. God bless.
