Stock fork oil fill volume discrepancy

Hello all, I’d appreciate if anyone has any intel on this discrepancy I’ve discovered.

I’ve read and re-read, and searched for days and can’t come across anything addressing this. Of course now that im posting, someone will probably have it.

I’m simply refreshing the stock front forks on my 13 Hyper. Dumped fluid, cleaned and replaced blown seals, dust caps, etc. Now I’m on to refilling.

Here’s the issue. The Owner’s manual, little red booklet, shows 553cc right leg and 415 left leg.

The Service manual shows 500cc right leg and 506cc left leg.

These are some substantial differences. Has anyone else noticed this or discovered what is actually correct? The Ducati dealer tells me they go by the Service manual spec but could not provide any answer as to the Owner manual spec. What am I missing here?

Cheers and thanks for any input.

Did you ever try to fill the correct number of oil in the user manual and overfill it?

I have not. I’ve got everything cleaned and ready to be reassembled and then saw this. The design of these forks is not one that easily allows removing fluid once they’re back together so I wanted to sort this before I start.

Because the amounts on each set are so different, it’s not like I could fill to one and if I didn’t like it, then just add to the other. I really wanted to get it right the first time and not have to drain them again.

You should've measured the amount that came out of each, for a baseline (even though I know they are sometimes wrong from factory...).

I just did mine, but I have the Andreani cartridges so it's different. Either way a different amount came out of each leg (see my attached notes), and I adjusted the amount for what I was trying to accomplish (less compression, more rebound). I suspect the installer of these forks didn't measure absolutely exactly tbh...

415ml sounds about right to me for the left leg btw. Start at 500ml on the right leg, as you can always add more if you are bottoming out / too soft. Always put a zip tie on the fork leg to see where you are at in travel.

Thanks. Measuring what came out would have not been helpful since I had blown seals. They had been leaking statically so what came out was definitely less than what was originally in there.

Additionally, who knows whomever serviced these last, I’m second owner, and what specs they followed. It’s not to common to see specs in this much disagreement which is what sparked the question to see if anyone else has seen this or been able to sort the issue.

On your fork data card, I see it’s noted compression and rebound. Which fork is left and right as I’m unfamiliar with the Andreani.

Thanks
