Brake Noise

Gatdammit, has your dealer tried deglazing the pads? Measured runout on the rotor(s)? Mine's been quiet and trouble-free since the first service and a good pad/rotor cleaning along with some vigorous stops to seat them nicely. Slow & easy ain't always the best when it comes to brakes.

mine are really noisy. was told i didnt break them in hard enough? they deglazed them at the 1000k but it didnt fix squat. Im in on Saturday to show them the split in my display so i will bring it up again.

Dealer hasn't touched brakes. They just filed warranty claim. I'm surprised they didn't even offer to deglase or resurface. It's pretty hard to make a clean stop the warping is so bad.

My bike has chattering in the front brakes as well. 600 mile service didn't fix it and now have 1800 miles and still have the issue. Apparently it isn't a break in issue. Back to the dealer I go.

Hhhmmm.....

Hello Tom from Longmont!

My new rotors are in and getting swapped this weekend. Probably will re-glaze rear pads to stop squeal.

wow! u guys went through alot, brakes, neural at 5&6 gear, stall engines, we just got our first delivery here in asia, hope Ducati have resolve some of this problem by now as its a lot hotter n dusty here, cheers

ah, you know the internet - most only comment on the bad. I think it's a relatively small sample of normal first run problems. The important thing is Ducati has been good about resolving the issues.

and welcome to the forum, My2sons.

New rotors fitted under warranty this past Saturday. Ducati has even changed the part number, which is telling since we're less than 2 months since US debut.

Front end is way better. Lever is much deeper, softer and progressive. Not sure if that was just a bad bleed job on stock system. I swear that my bike is more stable at high speed since. Rode through rain on ride home from shop so didn't get a great test, but my couple spirited hwy trips since shows the front end and entire bike is smoother and more planted above 75 mph. I was quite prone to light speed wobble if shifting or change lanes above 80, which is gone.

I take it they fitted new pads with the new discs, this would account for softer lever, it will firm up as things bed in.

Holy Crap, I was out riding on Sunday when this brake noise started, jumped on the forum and hey presto. Bike is in to the stealers this Friday to be checked out. I thought I had buggered up the brakes when I changed the front tire but als its Ducati's problem. I shall print this out and take it with me.

My 2nd set of rotors are warped. It must be something deeper. They offered to swap oil in front forks. Front end is a bummer, especially when trying to make a smooth stop.

Here we go...Dealer needs bike for extended evaluation as they are almost certain Ducati is going to deny claim for 2nd pair of rotors. The whole front end is just slightly off but it's so hard to verbalize. All I know is that when the 1st set was swapped out, the whole front half of the bike changed; quieter, smoother at speed.

It just sucks that now I have to defend myself - I ride it the bike hard sometimes, but I don't beat it up. I have a great relationship with my dealer but it's already starting to sour as I'm becoming their problem customer. I love the bike and still don't want to call it a lemon despite this but, it needs to be fixed.

Guess I can just get the rotors re-surfaced if they tell me to f-off. I will become a bitter new Duc owner if that happens. Oh, I've fought warranty claims with a big car company before and it was a futile exchange.

I took my bike to my local stealers and they test rode and found nothing so I told them to ride it again, still nothing. I gave them a copy of this thread and said it ain't just me. The service admin says, its your abs they're all like that, bollox says i, I had a Triumph for many years and never a peep from the abs, I had my Strada running for 700 miles and never a peep so stop the bull crap. within 200 yards of leaving the stealer the brake noice was there, I stopped called him and said wtf? he said to try riding with the abs off and see if it happens (em, why am I doing this and not you guys?). anyhoo, I haven't tried it yet, will this weekend to see if the noise is there or not. The service manager says he will talk to Ducati about it but I've heard nothing in a week.
If they can't fix it, its going up for sale, I will not tolerate crappy service and product for a $15k+ bike.

I've done 600kms now and still 400 to go for my first service. But I noticed squeaky noise when I brake very gently with the front brakes too. Everybody is talking about warped rotors but for me it feels more like it has something to do with the front fork as there is a "grainy" feeling when the fork moves deep and up again. Like a little vibration and it can't be the ABS as for my opinion the braking is nowhere near to strong or abrupt
