Its no bother, im glad you had no issues. I literally spend 2 hours trying to figure out where it could go without having wires poking out anywhere. Then had to just not use the wires. Im going to try again another day.

I was going to use the 12v socket on the bike but this seems to make a good bit of sense instead, does anyone have a close up of the connector as I have a whole load of cables but they are likely to be the wrong connectors.

This may be the power cable they are talking about hiding.

Garmin Zumo 350LM Motorcycle Power Cable

Connected mine to the rear power outlet using a power let plug. Tie wrapped along the frame. Ducati doesn't leave much room for anything. Mine is not pretty or a clean install but it is switched and I am using it for now.

Will look under the headlight cowl for room to stuff the excess wire and transformer in there.

Thanks Mike, but I would like to free that outlet for something else. I pretty much like your neat and clean installation, guess I have to order the cables. Oh yeah....would like to get my hands on the handlebar clamps as shown? Does it sold separately?

WildBill - thanks for the clear instructions. I've got a question for you: In the picture in your post you say "Or, if you have your own GPS etc. just cut and splice into the pigtail wires", would I be able to splice in a USB port there that would end up being switched? Are the "pigtail wires" just open ended wires attached to the gps wiring port so that you have the ability to attach your own device or do the pigtail wires continue on to power something else? I'm a little new to this stuff...thanks for the help.

I spliced in a USB port and plug my satnav into a socket on my handlebars. It's a cheap Ebay USB/Cigar Lighter on a bracket, it works great.

The 'pig tail' is basically a socket with two wires that are blocked off so that the socket does not let water in. If you want a really neat job take off the 'pig tail', work out what the socket type is and buy one for the end of your wire. I'd be interested in the name/source

although I just used the clip splicing connectors which worked fine.

Oh, when I first wired it up it wouldn't work, I then checked the Hella sockets and they were dead too! Turns out the fuse had blown, I'm not sure if it was before or during the installation. It's one of the tiny fuses under the seat, and there are a couple of spares in there.

Awesome, that answers my question about the pig tail. Thanks for the heads up about the fuse. If I figure out the socket type I'll post on the forum.

After doing some websearching I came across this post on a Diavel forum:

The proper way to wire your GPS - Ducati Diavel Forum

It says that the female connector for the diavel is this one:

455-1205-ND Socket

It looks right from the pictures that wildbill posted. Can anyone confirm for the hyperstrada, at least visually? You'll also need 2 of these to do a clean install:

Turns out the digikey links above are correct for the gps and heated grips. I got everything disassembled and shortened the USB jack cable and will reinstall tomorrow.

Does anyone know if it is necessary for me to keep the inline fuse that came with the USB jack? Seems like it might be redundant.

disconnect the battery when doing this stuff. You did it right and blew a fuse -what happens when 2 of the wrong wires are shorted? There's a lot of computer gear packed in there. Alright I'm done...

This might work but I'm thinking that unless you have the crimp tool crimp these connectors can fail. If there's space - and you want a connector - something like deutsch or posilok would offer a secure and weather resistant connection.

Best would be to solder and heat shrink a connection - no chance of failure.
