2016 Hyperstrada GPS and Heated Grips Connectors behind Headlight
Dear Forum,
I have read all 8 pages of the replies and postings on this forum as well as Wild Bill's photos which were most appreciated. I spent the afternoon in my garage with my 2016 Hyperstrada in an unsuccessful attempt to wire in a dual port USB device to what I thought was a simple solder to the pigtail project.
I disassembled the fairing and headlight verbatim to WildBills photos only my screws underneath the fairing were black and almost invisible until I got out a 2000 lumen flashlight (torch to UK members). I clipped the wire ties on both the left and right side, pulled back the black plastic protector and found 2 pigtails, one alike on either side. Mine had no label of "GPS" nor "Heated Grip". I turned on the key and then proceeded with my test light to determine which would work. I have heard the heated grip connector needs to be activated in the ECU by Ducati technicians, but that the GPS connector cirtcuit was live. To my sad surprise, neither of the pigtails had power even with the key on. I knew that it was not a blown fuse because everything on the bike, including the DIN/Hella ports was working.
Suspecting maybe the multimeter was potentially at fault or my lack of knowledge how to really use one, I then decided with the key on to simply attach my dual USB unit to the pigtails by simply holding wires together. No joy.
My suspicion is that I will need Ducati to activate the circuit in the ECU, but I am frustrated that after buying a solder gun, wire stripper, heat gun, heat shrink, flux, solder, paste, wire ties, etc. that I can't do this small project myself. I'm willing to get back into the garage and tear it apart again, but I do not want to tap the wrong harness and then have major electrical shorts or overload problems. Does anyone have a definitive photo of where I should be tapping in behind the headlight? The image red arrow WildBill points at is not the pigtail. The pigtail is obvious from the very small micro pin connector with a fused pair of wires just inserted to keep dirt/debris out of the female part of the connector.
Appreciate any guidance.
