Ducati Performance GPS Installation on Hyperstrada

2016 Hyperstrada GPS and Heated Grips Connectors behind Headlight

Bones,

Do you recall the size of the wire? The heated grip wires (Ducati Shop Manual Page 300, Branch 1, Pos. 11 (Right) and 12 (Left) hand heated grip wires) are very small micro-pins that are heat shrinked. Touching these with the multi-meter there is no voltage as they are switched off in the ECU. Just wondering if there may be another pair as tiny as these tucked away deep in the wiring bundle that I did not fish out. Again, not wanting to be destructive, I have not cut open the black plastic wrapping to splay them all out. Figured I could just tug at them gently to get the darn thing to show its head.

The GPS power wire is tucked on the right side, and inside that rubber boot that is zip tied. it is marked GPS or NAV. it is way in there.
go to the beginning of this thread and you will see what it looks like.

I didn't want to get aggressive ripping into the left and right side harnesses behind the headlight not knowing any details about the "GPS" or "navigator" wire. Ducati truly did a crap job on the shop and owners manuals. It is only list as node 6 on the Owners Manual and then a paltry 1 line mention on Page 300 of a table. They do not confirm which branch it is on, it is not shown in a single illustration, photo, image, schematic. Yes, I could have gotten aggressive and ripped out the entire wire harnesses behind the headlight, but was reticent to do so knowing the damage that could have created to other wires and circuits.

Plan B was to route a DIN-HELLA socket connector through the frame and up to the bars. Better than routing from the battery because the DIN-HELLA socket offers a fuse and operates on the ignition switch so not to drain power when the engine is keyed off.

This is an alternative to those who may not want to tackle the behind the headlight wiring mess.

I'm logged in but why can't I view these photos? the word photobucket on them and they are too blurry to read.

Texas, did you ever figure it out? I'm having the same problem now. I found both the GPS and Heated grips connectors under the headlight with the pigtails attached. I tested these with the multi-meter and there is no power running to them. I checked all the fuse's in the front and back fuse boxes and none are blown. I'm wondering if I really have to have Ducati activate them through the ECU?

the Nav/GPS lead is ignition-switched and doesn’t power up unless you turn the key. (You don’t have to start the engine.)

The grip heaters will need the bike’s computer to activate them. Then the starter button does double duty to control the grip heaters.

I’m sure you figured this out years ago since this is an old thread, but I posted in case others ever need the info. :)

Nice!! I knew that.

I have a cellphone charger plugged directly on the battery, thinking about connect on the NAv/GPS wire

Is your USB outlet waterproof? Having it facing up like that it would catch the rain I would have thought.
